Last week we took a quick look at a 240 gallon freshwater tank that we installed in Ipswich, MA.  Today we’ll take a closer look at some of this aquarium’s components and residents.     The fish you see here, and some of the water, came from a 75 gallon freshwater aquarium that we had been maintaining for several years now. This new tank sits on a custom built stand and has a matching custom canopy. The tank is lit by a Pacific Sun Hyperion LED aquarium...

These two empty tanks may look like they’re being stored safely in someone’s basement, but they have been placed deliberately and will soon be full of cycling saltwater.       The more water a system has, the more stable it is. Minor changes in pollution or nitrate levels will have a smaller net effect in a large environment.                       This is the display tank for this reef aquarium. We would...

We’ve already posted two entries about the makeover and system redesign on this 180 gallon aquarium. You can read them here  and here. Notice that empty refugium in the”after” pic? It’s not empty anymore…   We were able to get this light from the customer’s reef tank upstairs.       This tank looks great already but this reef keeper was ready for to upgrade his lighting. Imagine an Ocean was recently hired to organize and update a large 180+ gallon reef system. There is a gorgeous tank upstairs with pumps, filtration, and RODI water being kept in the basement.     When we arrived, there was an unsafe collection of wires and power strips hanging precariously over and around large volumes of water. Even if a short circuit or electric fire never occurs, simple or emergency maintenance and tank shut-off becomes much more difficult with so many cords,...

Freshwater aquarium care in Stoughton, MA: Filter replacement.

Posted by on Jul 29, 2013 in aquarium installation ma, aquarium service ma, Equipment, Filtration, freshwater, Installation | 0 comments

We were recently called to replace the filter in a freshwater cichlid breeding tank in Stoughton, MA. This filter was the “hang-on” type that relied on pads and sponges as media to filter debris and pollutants from the water. When we arrived at the house, the filter was very dirty and the tank’s owner wanted a new one. We decided to do away with the hanging filter.   Instead, we installed this much more efficient pump and filtration system underneath the...
